BBC Backstage Press Area at Party at the Palace, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
Brief:
To create a BBC Studios backstage working press area and broadcast line, to capture interviews with performing talent for live broadcast on BBC News, Sky, ITN, CBBC, and photography for Associated Press.
The Queen’s Party at the Palace attracted 12,000 in attendance and 13.3 million viewers and was an event of epic size and logistical processes.
My Role:
I oversaw the planning and delivery of the BBCS press area. Working with BBC Comms, Head of Artist Liaison and the Platinum Jubilee Production Team, we succeeded in creating a functional backstage area for working press, including a 10m red carpet broadcast line and press wall.
Due to the reputational value and scale of this event, there were a multitude of last minute updates to strict security polices and press access processes that I had to contend with and resolve, in addition to the ever changing talent schedules.
End Result:
Despite the pressures due to the scale of the event, and limited time frame we had to facilitate and complete the set up, we delivered one of the most organised press areas, as complemented by Sky News, visiting talent and BBC Studios Comms team stakeholders.
